Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Council of Europe
It is a great honor for us to be participating in this far-reaching summit. Of course, we will act on behalf of our country, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili stated in Reykjavik where he is taking part in the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Council of Europe.
According to Irakli Garibashvili, the challenges across the European continent will be discussed.
“I will have the honor of reiterating on behalf of our country all those reforms and all those successful activities that our Government has carried out over these last ten years. Besides, we will of course speak again about the challenges across the European continent. We will discuss domestic challenges, and I believe there will be very successful meetings as well.
“Besides delivering a speech, I will have a number of bilateral meetings. Our key message is that Georgia, our country and our Georgian people, deserve the candidate status. This is our choice, and it is unchanging—it is the choice of our population, our people. Consequently, my message will be once again that our country must receive the well-deserved status, because it will be a message from Europe to our population, our people, our country. And we do not expect any other decision. However, we must work hard of course, to convince our European friends that there simply is no alternative. If our European friends, our European partners really want to put an end to the polarization in the country, and to ensure peace and stability, and for the country to continue its path toward Europe, then of course I expect us to have the candidate status at the end of this year. This is my answer,” the Prime Minister said.
